LASC Reference Group Meeting on:
EU Accession Nationals
11:00am to 1:00pm, Friday 23 April 2004, at the ALG for
London Local Authority Asylum Team Managers/staff.
Accession Nationals will cease to be eligible for NASS or Interim
support on 1st May. The NASS Senior Management Team and members of
the NASS Policy Team will discuss the three options available:
- Register as workers under the new scheme. They will then be
eligible for certain in work DWP benefits and social housing;
- Remain in the UK as jobseekers but become self-supporting,
i.e. stay with friends or relatives; or
- Leave the UK. Local Authorities will have powers to provide
temporary accommodation to families, and to make travel
arrangements to their country of origin to both families and
singles.
Please make sure your Borough is
represented
Places are limited to one per local authority. However, should
you wish to send additional team members, their names can be added
to a reserve list, and you will be contacted prior to the event if
any places remain.
